About a month ago, the COVID-19 outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency as thousands of Chinese citizens had contracted the virus, and the entire city of Wuhan was placed under quarantine.

As we aim to provide our students with authentic learning experiences, we saw this as an opportunity to engage our students in a project where they could develop valuable skills and learn about social responsibility in a contextualized and meaningful way.

As such, we challenged our students to investigate this global issue and to collaboratively come up with a creative response effort to address this crisis. After researching the situation and brainstorming several response initiatives, we evaluated our ideas and collectively decided to address this crisis with the power of empathy. Students wrote and recorded letters of support to share with our global neighbours in their time of need.

This website ‘To China, With Love’ is the product of students’ efforts in this project. It is this same spirit of empathy, support, creativity and collaboration that will enable us to overcome the challenges ahead, now that they lay at our door.
