AHS has a long history of serving Toronto’s Jewish community. Throughout our 118-year history, AHS has been in many different locations and has been known by a number of different names. It has included afternoon school, Bet Hayeled, Elementary, Middle School, Junior High, High School; it has served as a Jewish community centre and as the heart of Jewish life in Toronto for over a century.

AHS established and opened its doors as Simcoe Street Talmud Torah, the first Jewish Day School of its kind in Canada
New branch of AHS opened on Brunswick Ave, re-named as the Toronto Hebrew Free School
New branch of AHS opened in Shaarei Shomayim and Bet Hayeled created
New branch of AHS opened in Beth Emeth Bais Yehuda
First AHS Grade 1 day school class opened
New branch of AHS opened on Spadina Ave
Hebrew High School created on Major St
AHS officially re-named Associated Hebrew Schools; final payment made on the Brunswick St branch mortgage
First AHS Grade 8 Day School graduation
Neptune branch opened on Neptune Dr
Junior Day High School established, serving students in Grades 7-9
Senior Day High School established (what would later become TanenbaumCHAT), administered by AHS, serving students in Grades 10-13
Huwich Education Centre opened on Finch Ave W
Danilack branch opened on Leslie St, servicing students from Grades 1-5
Kamin Education centre opened on Atkinson Ave
Neptune Dr branch re-opens as the Posluns Education Centre
Standalone AHS Middle School created, serving students in Grades 6-8
Danilack Middle School relocated from Leslie St to Hurwich Education Centre on Finch Ave W
Centre for Diverse Learning launched
Bet Hayeled branch opened on Cedarvale
Kamin Elementary branch joins Danilack Middle School at the Hurwich Education Centre

Throughout the past century-plus, AHS has continued to stay true to the values that drove its inception in 1907, to inspire students and families with the strength of tradition and the power of innovation in an ever-changing world, and to remain on the forefront of educational excellence. We can’t wait to continue serving the community and making history for Toronto’s Jewish community together.

A Longstanding Legacy of Learning

יש לנו היסטוריה עשירה. מראשית דרכם התוו בתי הספר אסוסיאייטיד חזון שעיצב את אופי החינוך היהודי בטורונטו.

בשנת 1907, הוקם תלמוד תורה ברחוב סימקו, בהובלת הרב יעקב גורדון ז”ל, והוא פרץ דרך חדשה. השפה העברית המודרנית שימשה להוראת מקצועות היהדות. מקצועות כלליים שולבו כדי להרחיב את המוסד לבית ספר יומי מלא, וילדים מכל גווני הקהילה היהודית למדו יחד.

אל המאה הבאה

אחרי 110 שנים , ההישגים שלנו מדברים בעד עצמם. יש לנו שלושה סניפים: שני בתי ספר יסודיים וחטיבת ביניים אחת, הפועלים בשני קמפוסים: מרכז החינוך הורוויץ’ ומרכז החינוך פוזלונס. כל שלוחה של בית הספר היסודי כוללת מסגרת חינוכית לגיל הרך- ״בית הילד״ – שבה מתחיל מסע לימודי דינמי של מסורת וחדשנות.

פורצי דרך, אזרחי העולם וגאים בישראל

בין בוגרי בית הספר שלנו נמנים פורצי דרך ידועים, בתחומי הרפואה, הספרות וההיסטוריה, חנוך יהודי, עסקים, תקשורת ובידור. הבוגרים שלנו מצליחים להוביל שינוי וחידוש בתחומים רבים, ומרבים טוב בעולם. מעל לכל, הם אזרחי העולם, עם נקודת מבט יהודית המבוססת על קשר עמוק לישראל ולמסורת לימוד ארוכת שנים.
